Instead of the traffic report, the radio blasted a strident, panicked voice that set his heart racing. An unfamiliar voice replaced the regular DJ. The new one spoke too fast, his words almost incoherent. When Ryan’s sleep-clouded mind deciphered what he heard, it was chilling.
“2025 NR will collide with the northern hemisphere in less than three days. Attempts to change the asteroid’s path in space have failed. Launch time for the series of nuclear missiles known as “Plan B” begins in thirty-six hours.”

The report ran every few minutes, each time seeming more unbelievable even though this was the news he’d been dreading. The voice played on a recorded loop and the countdown had started while he slept. He checked the time—now less than thirty-four hours. The news seemed like science fiction and it was hard to comprehend that it was real. Instead of getting ready for work, he packed.
