“2025 NR will collide with the northern hemisphere in less than three days. Attempts to change the asteroid’s path in space have failed. Launch time for the series of nuclear missiles known as “Plan B” begins in thirty-six hours.”
The report ran every few minutes, each time seeming more unbelievable even though this was the news he’d been dreading. The voice played on a recorded loop and the countdown had started while he slept. He checked the time—now less than thirty-four hours. The news seemed like science fiction and it was hard to comprehend that it was real. Instead of getting ready for work, he packed.
