The Dumb Class tells about the desires, fears and joys of baby boomer teenagers finding their way along as they deal with the world of parents, siblings, neighbors, teachers, businessmen, doctors, and, of course, the police.

They create their own milieu which is somewhat impervious to the society around them as they experiment, and in fact gain some expertise, with sex, drugs, and rock ‘n roll years before the hit recording by Ian Dury popularized the phrase. Hoods, elites, nerds, weirdos and freaks make up the characters in this sardonic junior high school baby boomer tale set in 1960. We were just a bunch of greasers trying to have a good time and, well, sometimes, we did. An entertaining and fun read that will be much enjoyed by the boomer set and other kids, too.

Mike Hatch has been a farmhand, migrant fruit picker, auto mechanic, race car driver, machinist, engineer, business executive and university professor. He has lived and worked in Wisconsin, Illinois, New York State and in Europe. He has traveled throughout North and South America, Europe and Asia. He holds bachelors and master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin. He currently lives in Wisconsin with his family. Two Days of Christmas by Ashley Robert

Like most children his age, Asher’s favorite day of the year was Christmas. Sure he liked to get presents and eat all the fabulous food just like everyone else, but mostly he loved being with both his parents. You see Asher’s father, Alec Banks, had run off on his mother, Judith, almost three years to the date and the ten year old boy longed for his family to be whole again.

Unfortunately, that didn’t happen because Alec’s girlfriend, Trish, unexpectedly showed up for the holiday weekend unannounced, even after Asher’s father promised that she wouldn’t. The young boy was so upset that he manages to sabotage the entire day of Christmas. Not until the day is completely lost, does Asher finally realize what an awful person he was for ruining Christmas, especially for his younger sister and cousins.

Then the most magical thing happens. Henry, who is the Spirit of Christmas, mysteriously shows up and grants Asher one wish. He tells the young boy that he will be able to relive Christmas day and fix all the things that he did wrong. Asher does exactly that, and along the way he rediscovers his faith in Santa and the Spirit of Christmas.

Ashley Robert was born and raised in south Florida in the 80’s. He spent his summers in North Carolina where he learned about southern culture. He went on to study at the University of Mississippi where he earned a degree in Broadcast Journalism. Throughout his life he has always had an appreciation for literature & film.
