EXCERPT
One of the smugglers took a step toward him and spoke in heavily accented standard speech. “You bring . . . payment?”

“If you have my merchandise,” he replied. He was outnumbered, and he didn’t like the confident look in the alien’s bloodshot eyes. This guy was sure he had the situation under control, and he was planning something tricky.

“Show.”

“Where’s my package?”

“No package. Kawanda.”

Another of the men pushed the hooded figure forward.

At the rough shove, the captive almost lost his balance and fell in the mud. As he fought to steady himself, Max saw his hands were secured behind his back.

Fates, what was this guy? A criminal? Or just dangerous? And what the hell did Rafe want with him?

He wavered on his feet a few meters away.

Unprepared for this new development, Max blinked. “The cargo is a person?”

“Dung to us. Valuable—to you.”

“Gods,” he muttered. He’d come here for merchandise. What kind of exchange was this anyway?

“You no want?”

His immediate reaction was, No want. He’d thought he was bringing expensive goods back to Danalon, and he hated the smell of this deal. His best guess now was that the bound man was a slave.

The idea of human trafficking made Max sick. He wanted to turn around and head back to his shuttle. But that could be dangerous under the circumstances. These men were expecting payment. Not only that, what would happen to the prisoner if Max rejected him?

Forgiveness in Recovery – Free Today

Forgiveness in Recovery by Ken Montrose

Forgiveness in Recovery by Ken MontroseWritten for people new to recovery, this workbook helps the reader develop a realistic outlook on forgiveness. Basic, and sometimes difficult, truths discussed in Forgiveness include:

  • The people we hope will forgive us don’t have to.
  • Seeing the other person’s point of view isn’t always easy, our point of view may not be easy for them to see.
  • We do well to practice the AA slogan to clean your side of the street.
  • Forgiveness is a wonderful gift, but one we may have to give judiciously.
  • Part of recovery is learning to forgive ourselves.

About the author of Forgiveness in Recovery, Ken Montrose:

author of Forgiveness in Recovery, Ken Montrose:Blind cat
I did a lot of personal research into the life of an alcoholic. The last time I had a drink I made an illegal left turn at 3:00 a.m., hitting a county sheriff. I was $35K in debt. I had just gotten kicked out of my Ph.D. program. My divorce was a month from being final. I lived in an apartment with no furniture. My cat was blind.

When Even the Voices are Hungover
I learned about mental illness by spending ten years helping people with schizophrenia overcome addiction. We’d talk about why partying with the voices was a bad idea, or the importance of not mixing Prolixin with crack. I was humbled by folks who stayed sober despite delusions, paranoia, hospitalizations, and horrible medication side effects.

Write now?
I started writing when I was in my early thirties. I wrote Dancing With Rachel in 1995, got a literary agent, and became an expert on rejection letters. Greenbriar Treatment Center asked me to write the workbooks we gave to patients. We began selling them online and at conferences, where they were very well received.

Lucky me
I have a wife and two children. They amaze me every day. I work at a rehab. The people there amaze me as well. Much of what I write is inspired by their struggles. I am working on another daily meditation book for recovering addicts, a series of short stories, and a novella about the clash between a shadow government, the real government, and people forced to take sides.

Wake Trilogy Book 1 Free Today

I read and reviewed Wake of Deception by Sasha Devore. It’s an exciting, adventure-packed story with colorful characters set in a thought-provoking dystopian future. I was completely involved in the story from beginning to end, without any moments failing to keep my attention. The story is a unique mix of The Matrix and the Hunger Games, which are two of my favorite stories. I have already started reading book two of the Wake Trilogy and sincerely hope that the author is well into writing book three!

Wake of Deception (The Wake Trilogy Book 1) by Sasha DeVore

The Wake Trilogy Book 1In the future, the world is ruled by a race of extraterrestrials that aren’t as benevolent as they appear to be. Parents report their children to the authorities if they exhibit unacceptable behavior, such as dreaming. The children are sent to mental hospitals for treatment where they are observed to determine if the drug therapy corrects the defect. Those that can’t be fixed are delivered to the District for override.

Hanu and a group of children are sent to Capital City to supposedly watch the Super Bowl celebration and be in the parade. But things don’t work out that way, and the children find themselves struggling for their lives.
