In Part 1 of this series, the bear initiates his global odyssey by visiting north-eastern Canada, southern United States, the highlands of Colombia and Peru, the Galápagos islands of Ecuador and the Marshall Islands in the vast Pacific Ocean. Everywhere he goes, he encounters evidence of climate change on people, communities, ecosystems and wildlife.
The bear also discovers the strategies that are already being implemented to reduce and adapt to climate change, making this a book more about solutions than problems.

Part 1 closes with an epilogue that highlights some main climate change terms and concepts, as well as tips and ideas to become more climate savvy – in Polo’s words, ‘wherever you live and whoever you are!’.

About the author of this children’s book about climate change, Alan J. Hesse:

Alan Hesse grew up all over the developing world, literally living from a suitcase as his soil-scientist father went from posting to posting from Syria to India and most places in between. This early exposure to myriad cultures served to inspire a penchant for drawing cartoons, usually of certain teachers from the back of the classroom, but also prompted Alan to make a firm decision at the tender age of 12 to somehow work with wildlife.
Many years later, as an adult living under his own steam in Bolivia Alan made both vocations come to life, cultivating his cartooning skills and developing a career as a conservation biologist.
