Crystals for Kids: Learn the Names of 17 Rocks and Minerals by Brenda DeHaan

Brenda DeHaan - Free Children's BookDo you like rocks and minerals? How many different ones can you name?

“Crystals for Kids” has colorful photographs of 17 kinds of rocks and minerals (also called crystals). See how many you already know and see what the others look like.

The crystals are shown with their names and are also photographed in magical village scenes. Most of the stones are in their polished form.

“Crystals for Kids” combines geology with imagination.

It has almost NO reading, just learning through the creative photographs with the rocks labeled. Look at the fun pictures and learn to identify more rocks and minerals. This book also works well as an interesting homeschooling science lesson.

NOTE: Because color is an important part of rock identification, reading this book with a Kindle or app that has color capabilities is highly recommended.

Jo Ann Power – Heroic Measures on Sale

This historical fiction by Jo Ann Power has ten reviews on Amazon with an average rating of five stars.

Jo Ann PowerFor Gwen Spencer, fighting battles is nothing new. An orphan sent to live with a vengeful aunt, Gwen picked coal and scrubbed floors to earn her keep. But when she decides to become a nurse, she steps outside the boundaries of her aunt’s demands…and into a world of her own making.

But that world has gone to war.

Volunteering for the Army Nurse Corps, Gwen promises to serve until the end of the conflict, no matter how long that is. She leaves her small hometown with her friends and sails away in the dead of night, chased by German U-boats. Ashore, she discovers her new world is dangerous and demanding, helping doctors heal thousands of sick and injured Doughboys in primitive conditions.

She’s determined to overcome the heartbreaks and the challenges. Becoming an expert at anesthesia, she volunteers to go to the front lines with an acute care team. Braving bombings and the madness of men crazed by pain and despair, she surprises herself when she falls in love with a man she admires—and should not want.

Amid the chaos, she learns the measure of her own bravery to bear any burden, pay any price and claim the one man she adores as she becomes all that she desires.

About the author, Jo Ann Power:

author, Jo Ann PowerWith awards on my walls for novels and non-fiction I’ve written, the best rewards for my life-long career as a writer continue to be the lovely notes I receive from happy readers. Gleeful to get each one, I challenge myself constantly to write books that thrill my heart.

Now as we commemorate the Centennial of WWI, I debut my newest novel, HEROIC MEASURES. In 1917, more than 10,000 American women volunteered to join the Army Nurse Corps to travel thousands of miles to a country they did they know to heal thousands of wounded Doughboys. HEROIC MEASURES is the story of one group of nurses, their valor, their dedication and their sacrifices.
Please read my blog about these valiant women, the physical and emotional challenges they endured and the thousands of lives they saved amid the most frightening conditions.

The Craft Fair Vendor Guidebook: Ideas to Inspire by Brenda DeHaan

GuidebookAre you thinking about selling your creations at craft fairs but aren’t sure where to start? Are you already selling items but would like more ideas to enhance your displays?

“The Craft Fair Vendor Guidebook: Ideas to Inspire” is the go-to guide for people interested in personalized selling. Including many color photographs from craft fairs and other vendor events, this book offers logical ways to display merchandise, simple solutions to save time and make money, and practical advice on a myriad of subjects. It even includes tips for craft fair organizers.

The author’s specialty is wire-wrapped jewelry, but the book’s principles may be applied to other crafts and merchandise. Learn tips on attracting customers to your enticing booth displays.

Being a craft fair vendor involves efficiently transporting your booth items, quickly setting everything up like an attractive “mini store,” dismantling everything later that day, loading your vehicle (again!), and going home with more money than you’d brought.

Setting up a portable display poses different challenges from creating one that will be stationary in a store setting. Each craft fair has its own layout and what works in one venue may not work in another. Therefore, it’s essential to have a variety of display ideas to determine the best one for each show.

“The Craft Fair Vendor Guidebook” contains common sense strategies to assist with your home-based business. It starts with business basics and expands to cover a wide range of topics from set-up to sales, including selling beyond the typical craft fair venue. Offering economical DIY techniques, learn how a child’s art kit can be transformed into a lovely jewelry display case or how PVC pipe can uplift your displays literally and figuratively.

Throughout the book, the author shares her experiences to encourage and inspire others. Instead of wasting countless hours searching online for realistic ways to elevate your craft fair business, this book is a handy, step-by-step reference. A quick read including 100 photographs, this book should spark ideas and motivate vendors to create their best booths ever!

Will Brandon find out before he flies back home? This multicultural, multigenerational chapter book includes some Mandarin Chinese (Simplified) with Pinyin pronunciation, adding layers for those learning or interested in the Chinese language and culture.

About the author, Eugenia Chu:

Eugenia ChuEugenia Chu is an attorney, turned stay-at-home mom, turned award-winning and best-selling author.  She is a first generation Chinese-American citizen and lives on a magical beach in Miami with her husband and son, Brandon, who is the inspiration for her stories.  She enjoys reading, writing, traveling, yoga and drinking too much coffee. She has been a presenter at numerous schools, libraries and book festivals.

When Brandon was very little, the author couldn’t find children’s storybooks to read to him which touched upon Chinese culture and which included some Chinese (Mandarin) words to teach and/or reinforce his Chinese vocabulary, so she started writing her own.

“Author Eugenia Chu takes readers on a wonderfully authentic and interesting sightseeing trip but makes sure to sprinkle a story of mythical creatures giving this tale a magical quality. Adorable, informative, and engaging. Chu’s wonderful slice of Asian life is a fun way to learn about culture…
