Better Parenting for Girls with ADHD: Discovering ADHD Profiles with Custom-Designed Solutions for All Ages (Managing Mental Health for Everyday Warriors Book 1) by Riley Ellis
I was a wilting flower against the walls of my high school, whose friends only came calling when homework needed to be copied. I didn’t have ADHD. You know how I know? Everything else was easy for me. Well, not sports, but everything else.
The first time I picked up a book on ADHD, I berated myself for not having seen the signs sooner. And for good reason. My life and Poppy’s life would have been so much easier at a much earlier point if I had only figured it out. It’s not that I wanted to fail her; it’s that I was failing her no matter what I did. I didn’t have the right information in my arsenal.
By the time I finished that first book, I was well and truly depressed. By the time you digest the statistics and all the other business they throw your way, you’re left feeling hopeless. I’m here to tell you, that right there is the dumb part. Our daughters are amazing, ya’ll. Let’s treat them as such.
They are struggling in math, science is a crapshoot, we spend hours reviewing English, and the papers don’t get turned in. What can I do to help my daughter? What’s the most important thing she needs to learn at this point in her life?
To value herself and to seek the company of people who value and appreciate her unique strengths.
