All Our Yesterdays (Velvet Records Book 1) by Eleanor Wells

It all started on the night of my high school graduation, back in 1999, when my best friend Maura shoved a camcorder towards my face. Our class of forty-seven milled about in the orchestra room, waiting for the approaching announcement that it was time to line up and head in. My dad had just left for the auditorium, ready to conduct the underclassmen who’d play us through the night.

“Marcy Lewis, you’re graduating! Have a comment?”

I blurted out the first thing to come to mind. “Happy Y2K!”

“What’s the thing you’re proudest of?” she asked. She took a step back to get a better shot, bumping into Georgia Hale.

“Pay attention,” Georgia snipped. She walked off to find her friends.?Maura rolled her eyes, pausing the video.

“Never have to see her again,” I said as soon as she was out of earshot.

“Good riddance,” Maura said under her breath. She focused the camera on me once more. “Let’s go from where we left off.” She restarted filming, mimicking the motion of a slate with her thumb and index finger.

“All four years?” I clarified.

“All four years,” she confirmed. “Pick one.”

“Playing Nora in A Doll’s House.” I rarely had the time to do school plays, but the past spring, I had. Not only was it a special show, but there was a part of me that had a feeling it would be my swan song to theater, at least for a while.

“Perfect.” Maura noticed her ex, Jack. She trailed after him with her camcorder in hand, asking him the same question. “What’s the thing you’re proudest of?”
